Before founding Deslauriers Jeansonne, Sylvain Deslauriers was a partner with one of the largest law firms in Canada, where he was a member of the commercial litigation and banking law departments. He regularly represents and advises a number of companies and financial institutions on legal issues related to liability or to commercial and financial transactions.
While continuing in private practice, Mr. Deslauriers had served as an Attorney-General's prosecutor (Crown attorney) at the Outremont Municipal Court; he also taught courses at the University of Sherbrooke and the Quebec Bar School.
Mr. Deslauriers has participated as arbitrator in several arbitration cases related to business law, corporate issues and labour relations. He chaired the arbitration board set up under the Canada Energy Act.
Mr. Deslauriers has held various positions with his professional associations, including being a member of the Board of Directors of the Young Bar Association of Montreal, secretary of the Bar of Montreal, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Barreau du Québec (Quebec Bar Association). He has served on many Barreau du Québec committees, including the disciplinary committee. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, of the International Union of Lawyers and an associate member of the American Bar Association. He assists and advises non-profit organizations such as the Quebec Lung Association, of which he is a director and secretary.
Mr. Deslauriers is married to Lisette Laberge; they have two children.
